Adaptability is the new core competency.

Adaptive to your surroundings

Adaptive to your surroundings

It’s literally all change, but how can we change the way we change?

It used to be that management skills were passed along from superiors, well aware of how an organisation worked based on established institutional knowledge. The formula was simple:  Take past management strategies, tweak and adjust for current realities and then manage. It’s an approach that was packaged, taught and executed with ease, but it has now eased into the past.

We all know that approach just doesn’t work anymore.  The past doesn't matter as much as it once did. And for very good reasons. Traditional management strategies are based on a very different business and organisational reality.

It wasn’t that long ago that the pace of change was such that any response to shifts in the marketplace was executed with a slow, thoughtful, and considered approach with a five, four, or three year plan. Contrast that to the sense of urgency that comes with improved data monitoring that shows customer satisfaction ebbing and flowing in real time, massive changes in technologies, workforce skills, disruptive business models, disrupted supply chains, global trade wars, green agendas and pandemics. - to name only a few!

Business and organisational change is now exponential and if an organisation tries to go forward by embracing the strategies of its past, then it is setting itself up for a rapid decline to obsolesce and obscurity

Today’s successful companies don’t view Adaptability as a ‘nice to have’ business strategy. For them it is an essential element to business success, longevity, differentiation and long term prosperity. We all have to learn to change the way we change.

That noted, adaptability isn’t just something that can be overlaid on an organisation. The organisation must learn to make adaptability its core competency, woven into the very fabric of the business and the the work-climate itself in a meaningful way. It must become the instinctive first reaction when faced with external challenges.

The Sense and Adapt academy have worked with many types of organisations in several industrial sectors transforming their work climate and cultures into Adaptive marvels.

Why being adaptive is essential

All businesses need to be adaptive. Failure to react when change is required will almost certainly hamper the growth of your organisation and could even result in its decline. However, it's even more important for complex services companies to become adaptive due to the additional challenges they face.

Companies that supply complex services, such as IT systems or cloud services utilities, outsourcing, or health care etc. often work within fast-moving industries and need to establish long-lasting relationships with customers in order to thrive. Many of the services offered by this type of company are business-critical, so their clients want to be confident that their suppliers are ahead of the curve in terms of processes and business practices.

Changing the way we change

Unfortunately, even companies working in the most forward-thinking, innovative industries can be held back because they're using old-style 'top to bottom' change management strategies. That means new ideas and working practices can take time to filter down the chain and departments may not always work collaboratively.

Why the Sense and Adapt Business Model works

To transform your complex service business into an adaptive organisation, you'll need to take a more holistic, collaborative approach to change. That's where our Sense and Adapt Business Model comes in. It is method independent, so no matter what change tools you're using by integrating them judiciously, it can enable your organisation to continuously adapt to changes in market trends and disruption.

The Sense and Adapt Business Model is an effective solution for creating a culture and work-climate of continuous change and customer value creation and most importantly differentiation. We focus on creating performance change teams and highly adaptive businesses.
